Purpose of Job:
The Senior Vice President (SVP) Member Engagement serves as a member of the Senior Management Team and assumes a strategic role in the overall management of ODEC. This impactful position oversees ODEC’s external and member relations functions and works directly with the senior managers to establish programs and policies focused on member needs and anticipated changes in the industry. Ensures member’s needs are met by communicating with members and stakeholders about industry changes; and developing and implementing industry leading, member-focused strategies for the future. This position is located in the Glen Allen, Virginia home office.
Essential responsibilities include:
As a member of the Senior Management Team, participate in weekly staff meetings and address various strategic and operational issues.
Serve as voting member of the Risk Management Committee.
Participate in the development of ODEC’s annual goals and objectives.
Oversee development of individual department and employee goals to ensure consistency.
Oversee the development and implementation of ODEC’s public and member communications, including print, social media, and web site content. The SVP will develop ODEC communications strategy to align with member distribution cooperatives needs.
Oversee the orientation program for new ODEC Board Members.
Oversee the development and implementation of strategies to influence state and federal legislative and regulatory bodies by building and maintaining relationships with Virginia, Maryland and Delaware state and federal legislative and regulatory bodies.
Develop and foster a strong relationship with VMDAEC and its employees for the benefit of all cooperatives in VA, MD and DE.
Develop and foster strong relationships with other external stakeholders, including organizations with goals differing from ODEC’s priorities.
Oversee the development of programs and strategies to accelerate strategic electrification across ODEC’s service territory.
Build a culture of collaboration between various ODEC departments, our members, and other external stakeholders to develop and implement programs and strategies that are beneficial to member cooperatives. Primarily focusing on new technologies, rate issues and policies.
Work Experience:
Minimum 10 years’ experience in legislative affairs, public policy making and government relations.
Minimum 10 years’ experience with public relations marketing and developing and implementing communications strategies.
Minimum 5 years’ experience working in or with electric cooperatives.
Minimum 5 years’ experience effectively leading and developing management level staff position.

Ability to build effective relationships with member cooperatives, board of directors, government and all other stakeholders.

Ability to effectively interact and collaborate with individuals and teams at all levels both using effective oral and written communication
Organizational skills and ability and accountability to meet deadlines
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in political science or related field or equivalent industry experience.
Travel details: Occasional day and overnight travel required in this position. Work outside of regularly scheduled hours required.
