POSITION DETAILS
Medgar Evers College (MEC), a nationally recognized leader in urban-serving education, is one of twenty-five colleges within the dynamic City University New York (CUNY) System. Named for the late civil rights leader, Medgar Wiley Evers (1925-1963), the College's mission is to develop and maintain high-quality, professional, career-oriented undergraduate degree programs in the context of liberal education. Located in Central Brooklyn, MEC was established in 1970 with a mandate to meet the educational and social needs of the Central Brooklyn community. The College is committed to a student-centered education and advancing knowledge through scholarly research.
The College seeks a Vice President for Philanthropy and External Relations (VPPER) who is a dynamic leader with proven expertise in philanthropy and external relations. Reporting to the President, the VPPER will develop an aggressive fundraising and external relations plan to increase corporate, foundation, and individual gifts, as well as government grants, contracts, congressionally directed spending, and state legislative and city discretionary funding. The incumbent will also serve as Executive Director of the Medgar Evers College Education Foundation.
-Provide leadership and direction, in collaboration with the College President and the Foundation board for the foundation's fundraising, donor stewardship, and strategic planning efforts to support the College.
-Facilitate continuous development of the foundation board members through the selection process, orientation, and engagement
-Organize meetings for the foundation board, inclusive of meeting announcements, develop meeting agendas in consultation with the College President and the leadership of the foundation board, and provide support for the board committees
-Provide leadership in the creation and execution of a strategic fundraising plan and a strategic government relations plan and evaluate the progress of meeting the goals and objectives of each, while maximizing efficiency
-Develop the annual budget by unit and foundation priorities; prepare budget and fundraising progress reports and efficiently manage the resources.
-Organize and oversee employee giving campaigns, and other special events to support student success
-Work with academic deans to assist with fundraising priorities for each school
-Maintain an active portfolio of donor relationships, ensure retention of current donors, cultivate new donors, and develop strategies to encourage current donors to give at a higher level, in alignment with the College???s needs and the donor???s interest
-Ensure that gifts are administered in alignment with the donor???s intent
-Keep ongoing communication with the finance team, conduct regular reconciliations with the finance team
-Comply with federal and state guidelines as it relates to nonprofit organizations
-Submit requested fundraising reports to CUNY.
-Work with the scholarship coordinator to ensure alignment of scholarships with scholarship criteria and donor intent.
-Provide summary reports on state and federal policies that impact higher education and the implications for MEC
-Develop and lead funding strategies for local, state, and national policymakers, foundations, and corporations.
-Other related duties as assigned by the President
QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.
The successful candidate must possess at the time of application:
A graduate degree
A professional fundraising certification such as the CFRE, CFRM, etc.
Proven experience in fundraising and government relations
Excellent communication skills
A preferred candidate should have these additional qualifications:
At least ten years of senior-level managerial experience in higher education
Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Ability to travel

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary commensurate with education and experience.
$150,000-$186,000
