The Chancellor reports to University of North Carolina System President and is responsible for all institutional operations including administrative, academic, financial, student, and alumni affairs. The ideal candidate will be an transformational leader who appreciates North Carolina A&T's unique history and mission, serves the institution with integrity and transparency, forges strategic partnerships, understands and appreciates the UNC System governance structure, has an intense focus on student success, demonstrates strategic vision and leadership, embraces the institution's role in economic development, participates in and understands government relations, understands and appreciates human capital, experience in fiduciary stewardship, applies sound operational excellence and demonstrated creativity and innovative leadership.

Founded in 1891, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is a public, doctoral research, land-grant institution, and has been the largest historically Black university in the country for the past decade. With an enrollment of 13,885 students in 2023, the university offers 59 undergraduate degree programs, 35 master's programs, and 11 doctoral programs. It is America's top producer of Black graduates in Engineering and Agricultural Science bachelor's programs, as well as a top five producer in numerous additional disciplines.
