Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for External Relations, this position will develop and lead UNMC's government affairs, public policy and advocacy agenda, in collaboration with leadership of UNMC, Nebraska Medicine and the Office of the President.
Establish and manage successful relations at all levels of government, including advancing UNMC's relationship with key Congressional Delegations, Congressional staff, Federal Funding Agencies, state and local officials.
Communicate UNMC's position on federal, state and local issues of importance to policy decision makers.
Develop and implement strategies to identify, influence and achieve desired legislative and regulatory outcomes at all levels of government.
Increase federal and state funding for the academic health science system related research and education missions.
Engage UNMC leadership in relevant discussions on local, state and national levels to advance initiatives including research, education, training, patient care, and public policy.
Assist UNMC leadership with navigating engagements with Congressional Delegations, Congressional staff, and Federal Funding Agencies.
Strengthen UNMC's presence on and contributions to national and state panels, policy boards and commissions.
Identify, analyze, track, strategize, and advocate on local, state and federal policy initiatives that may impact the academic health system.
Manage external relationships with academic health system stakeholders and take a leadership role in coalition and national organization advocacy efforts.
Ensure UNMC representatives who interact with government representatives and agencies are appropriately briefed and educated about University of Nebraska policy and relevant UNMC's strategy.
Educate internal stakeholders regarding the potential impact of proposed legislation and prepare timely recommendations and communications for UNMC leaders.
Collaborate with internal and external subject matter experts to identify and address academic health system needs.
