For almost 50 years, the North Carolina Association of School Administrators (NCASA) has supported North Carolina superintendents, principals, and other school leaders with membership services in communications, non-partisan advocacy, and professional development. The Raleigh-based non-profit is seeking a Communications andAdministrative Services Assistant to work part-time (20 to 24 hours per week) supporting the leadership efforts of our Executive Director and the team leaders who manage our work in those three core focus areas.
NCASA seeks a detail-oriented, flexible, and driven team player with a deep commitment to public education and strong skills in all aspects of administrative support for this position, which reports to the Executive Director. The individual must have strong written communications skills , and some experience with graphic design, websites, and social media is preferred. The individual will be based in our Raleigh office and will have the opportunity to perform some work remotely.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists in development and sharing of weekly e-newsletter, including but not limited to researching the latest education-related news coverage to share with members, uploading news articles from internal and external sources, and creating promotional language for upcoming events;
Monitors and summarizes legislative and administrative committees as needed for relevant information to share with organization’s members;
Assists with grassroots strategies, including attending some events and legislative hearings;
Assists with sharing and organization of content on website and social media accounts;
Assists with the development of monthly podcast, presentations, reports, new articles, and meeting summaries;
Assists with legislative and policy research efforts;
Tracks state legislation through an online software; and
Assists with general office duties that support the Executive Director and the organization’s overall efforts in advocacy, communications, and professional development.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or a related field; commensurate experience in these areas also will be considered;
Previous experience in communications or either administrative services work with a strong focus in communications support, preferably in a non-profit organization;
Previous experience in, or at least a strong understanding of, the state legislative process and the state’s public school system;
Strong writing skills, with knowledge of Associated Press (AP) Style writing and general grammatical best practices;
Skilled in all programs in the Microsoft Office Suite;
Preferred experience using graphic design software, Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Constant Contact, WordPress, or other web content management software;
Skilled in social media apps, including Twitter; and
Ability to work both independently and in group settings, often under strict deadlines.
