Carnegie Mellon University is hiring a Director of Research Partnerships - Energy Focus to join the College of Engineering. This is a dynamic opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by providing broad partnership support, including a focus on energy technologies with corporate and federal energy-related research strategy development, pursuit, acquisition, support, and coordination functions, and other such tasks as assigned to you.

Your core responsibilities will include:

• Developing strategies to enhance faculty engagement with corporate partners and federal program managers to enhance the ability of faculty to secure energy-related funding.

• Playing an integral role in designing and executing a strategy to support faculty in helping define program requirements in DOE and energy other related programs.

• Tracking and identify opportunities for CMU faculty to engage in advisory boards and other agency leadership activities.

• Assisting in identifying and shaping effective national lab partnerships that can directly enhance faculty competitiveness for funding.

• Working with the government relations team on the planning preparation and execution of events and briefings and associated materials that support a focused advocacy strategy.

• Working with CMU leadership and targeted faculty to support initiatives to attract center level funding.

• Other duties as assigned.

You should demonstrate:

• Strong understanding of how the R&D functions within the federal government, and how R&D interfaces with corporations and universities.

• Ability to assimilate and understand a broad range of engineering technologies and markets.

• Understanding of basic intellectual property and contract engagement principals.

• Ability to comfortably interact and engage with both senior management and senior technical leadership within government agencies and corporations.

• Knowledge of the principles of research funding, fundraising and the ability to integrate with and support the broader institutional partners.

• Ability to visualize, understand and articulate the opportunities for partners for CIT.

• Knowledge of business and marketing techniques and the ability to apply these principles effectively.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree required (masters preferred)

• 5-8 years of prospect solicitation and management experience required.

  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
