Summary of Position: The Executive Director (ED) is the chief paid member of the staff. The ED manages all full and part time members of the NECSEMA staff, is responsible for implementing and managing the finances of the association and directing its day-to-day activities, mission, policies, and programs as approved by the Board of Directors. The ED is the spokesperson for the association to all members, partners, legislators, and the media.
Duties, Responsibilities & Authority:
Establishes administrative policies and procedures.
Subject to overall personnel policy is responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, promoting, compensating, and discharging staff. Administers an effective personnel program that includes position descriptions, performance standards, performance appraisals and compensation systems.
Executes contracts and commitments as may be authorized by established policy or by the Board of Directors.
Establishes and directs activities of association committees. Assures that all committee decisions and recommendations are submitted to the Board of Directors for approval.
Oversees the authorized and proper expenditure of funds. Assures that all funds, physical assets, and other property of the Association are appropriately safeguarded and administered.
Plans, recommends for approval, and then operates within an annual budget.
Develops and supervises an effective membership development program.
Manages staff responsible for events, publications, and government relations. Oversees website and membership-wide communications. Chief contact for media, public relations, and issues management.
Keeps the Board fully informed on the conditions and operations of the association and on important matters.
Supervises the preparation of the association's legislative position papers, testimony and fact sheets, and administers grassroots lobbying activities to further the association's legislative agenda.
Supervises association's fund-raising, PAC activities, advertising, and sponsorship programs.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate is a passionate and dynamic leader capable of directing a small team, able to manage multiple responsibilities, can work under pressure, demonstrates exceptional communication skills, is comfortable speaking to diverse audiences and the media, and, above all, cares deeply about the membership and creating a fruitful landscape in which the association’s members can thrive.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.
5-10 years of leadership experience required.
Capability to demonstrate the confidence and presence to interact with high level business and governmental leaders.
Ability and willingness to travel regionally with some out of region travel, and to attend (in person and/or virtually) occasional evening hearings.
Superb written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills a must.
Capacity to learn and utilize multiple web-based platforms.
A self-starter with positive energy and can-do attitude.
