SENIOR POLICY ADVISOR, Office of the President, to join the MIT Washington DC Office. Responsibilities include creating and maintaining relationships with federal agencies, congressional staff, peers in higher education and other coalitions, and the MIT community; designing and advocating for MIT policy initiatives and positions; and helping faculty and students inject their ideas into policy. Specific policy issues will depend on the background and interests of the person hired, but will include biomedical research. Specific tasks include analyzing and monitoring proposals from the executive branch and Congress, preparing advocacy materials on MIT positions and policy initiatives, and arranging and preparing MIT leadership for meetings with federal policy makers and influencers.
Job Requirements REQUIRED: bachelor's degree and at least five years of relevant experience or a Ph.D. in an applicable field and at least one year of relevant experience (Relevant experience includes work in government relations or in a government agency or the Congress. An applicable academic field for a Ph.D. generally means a field in which MIT offers a degree.); strong analytical and written and oral communication skills; initiative; and ability to juggle a diverse portfolio and work both independently and as part of a team.
