Position Objective Summary:
Assesses and addresses key account issues, including rates, billing, metering, power quality, and service reliability, facility expansion or modification, and internal operations issues
- Education
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Business Administration, Finance, or Engineering is required. A Master's degree is preferred. Knowledge of business planning, financial analysis, and sales process are required. Must complete NRECA course: 487.2 Managing Your Electric Cooperative's Key Accounts within two years from hire date
- Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in the areas of planning, sales, lobbying, or economic development. Experience must show the ability to accomplish desired results pertinent to the position through effective interaction with Key Account customers, retail systems, other departments, and employees. An exceptional educational background may be considered for a portion of the experience requirements.
Must be knowledgeable of FCEMC's policies relating to member services and operations. Must possess a basic knowledge of the personal computer software programs used by FCEMC personnel. Knowledge of electric utility billing and the operation of an electric distribution system is desired.
III. Mental and Physical Requirements
The mental and physical requirements for this position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Work will primarily be done in the FCEMC's Headquarters Office. The work environment may include considerable movement, frequent interruptions, and frequent use of computer terminals and/or personal computers. Travel to the district offices and member job sites will be required.
- Must have the ability to effectively interact and clearly and concisely communicate with other Cooperative personnel, business and industry representatives, Cooperative members, the general public, legislative representatives, and related groups or individuals.
- Must possess visual acuity and manual dexterity, as well as the ability to listen and communicate orally. Occasionally bends, stoops, squats, and lifts from 20 to 40 pounds.
- Visual acuity and manual dexterity are required to enter and verify entered data into a computer terminal.
- Listens and communicates orally with employees, members, etc.
- Frequently sits, stands, and walks and occasionally bends, stoops, squats, and lifts to perform various responsibilities of the position.
- Must have a valid driver's license and be able to operate a motorized vehicle without the assistance of another employee.
- Must be able to work varying hours required by the job, including night meetings several times each month. Overnight travel both in and outside the state is necessary on occasions.

VII. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Key Accounts 60%
- To market Four County EMC's commercial and industrial rates and services to attract new loads and improve the overall system load factor.
- Serve as commercial/industrial account liaison to develop and maintain a good working relationship as their premiere power provider.
- Visit key accounts at least two times per year or more as necessary.
- Communicate updated rates to the big six each year.
- Assist key accounts with rate inquiries, outage issues, and power quality concerns.
- Maintains a working knowledge of beneficial electrification solutions and how they can help our members.
- Implement E.V. charging solutions in our territory.
- Leads special projects that are in alignment with our strategic plans.
- Assists in developing and adhering to an annual strategic plan and budget.
- Assist with researching territorial issue concerns for current key accounts that are seeking expansion opportunities.
- Assists in performing and maintaining a risk assessment analysis for each key member.
- Assists in developing and maintaining an online database profile of each key member.
- Develops a mutually beneficial business relationship with each key customer.
- Identifies trends or events which may present additional opportunities. Assists in developing programs, proposals, and services, which will capitalize on these trends or events.
- Continuously identifies key customers and categorizes them by risk, business type, revenue, and service needs.
- Monitors and analyzes billings for each key customer to provide billing and purchase alternatives. Seeks to guarantee the key customer takes advantage of the best rate for their situation.
- Develops a working knowledge of key customer trades and/or business operations.
- Attends and participates in key customer industry trade shows resulting in a greater understanding and improved relationships with key customers.
- Economic and Community Development 30%
- To assist local government, local developers, and private non-profit organizations in community development projects by helping them with identifying finance opportunities and identifying potential resources. These contributions improve living conditions and establish new rural outreach services in the Four County EMC service area.
- Assist with the REDLG grants and loans as well as the Four County revolving loans by processing applications and communicating with the management team and parties involved.
- Serve as liaison between Four County and large commercial and industrial accounts when handling contractual agreements and right-of-way easements to obtain a new load. This includes obtaining plans and detailed electrical load for new and existing clients.
- Assist local, regional, and private developers in attracting new and expanding commercial/industrial members to the Four County EMC service area, creating opportunities to obtain new loads.
- Leverage local, state, regional, and national contacts to aid in resolving issues to assist with the completion of projects.
- Assist local developers in identifying potential industrial sites, their feasibility for development, the collection, maintenance, and distribution of available site and building data, and assistance to industries seeking locations.
- Develop power cost proposals for new commercial and industrial loads, using a rate consultant when needed.
- Introduce key stakeholders of commercial and industrial clients to each other to encourage new business for the companies.
- Introduce county developers, local development groups, and industrial building contractor contacts to each other to promote the general Four County EMC service area.
- Keep abreast of financing alternatives, including grants and loans that may be available for new and existing members.
- Assist with researching territorial issue concerns for potential new businesses coming to the area.
- Represent Four County on various economic development organizations such as N.C. Economic Developer's Association, Wilmington Committee 100, Bladen County Committee 100, Ally for Pender Progress Corporation, National Rural Electric Developer's Association, and others as needed.
- Assist with community events.
- Legislative Support/Government Relations 10%
- Responsible for staying informed on legislative issues that affect the energy industry and cooperatives and presenting that information internally and externally as necessary.
- Serve as a liaison between Four County and elected officials by establishing and coordinating a proactive legislative program that keeps legislators aware of Four County's programs, progress, and needs.
- Attend relevant legislative conferences and events locally, regionally, and nationally.
- Deliver political action committee checks to legislators that support the rural electrification program. These legislators are chosen by the REAP/ACRE committees that are made up of representatives from cooperatives across North Carolina.
VIII. Relationships:
1. Internal
- Vice President of Customer Services - keeps informed concerning industrial, commercial, and community development possibilities and activities.
- Staff - assist, inform and advise as required and as authorized in order to effectively fulfill the objectives and responsibilities of the position.
- Local Offices - assist and inform of community development activities and seek information and leads which will assure the Cooperative's leadership in this area.
- External
- Members - maintain friendly, cooperative relationships with customers in the performance of duties and responsibilities.
- General Public - Maintain friendly, cooperative relationships with the general public in the performance of duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Associated organizations - Maintain communications with associated organizations such as NCAEC, NCEMC, CFC, RUS, NC Department of Natural Resources and Community Development, NC Department of Commerce, local county developers, county development groups, committees of 100, private and public grant and load agencies, and other organizations which Four County EMC is affiliated for the exchange of information on a timely basis and maintenance of good public relations.
