Director of Corporate, Foundation & Government Relations

Summary and Scope of Position:
Reporting to the Vice President for Advancement, the Director of Corporate, Foundations and Government Relations is responsible for identifying and qualifying prospective external funding sources and implementing strategies to solicit a portfolio of key foundations, corporations and government agencies with various funding priorities. The Director will lead a pro-active, strategic thinking team that creates opportunities and actively moves qualified foundations, corporations, and government agency prospects through the cultivation cycle. In this role, the Director will seek out and maintain positive relationship with governmental personnel and develop relationships with corporate entities and foundation leaders. In addition, the Director will cultivate a positive working relationship with faculty members at Ursinus who seek external funding and grant support, assisting the faculty with funding opportunities, and working with faculty on stewarding their donors and producing stewardship reporting as required by grant parameters. The Director assists the Vice President with managing institutional gifts and manages a Coordinator for Corporate, Foundations & Government Relations.
Serve as primary point of contact both internally and externally with key foundations, corporations and government entities; leading the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship processes.
Collaborate with Vice President, college leadership, deans, key faculty and administrators in order to develop solicitation strategies for select foundations, corporations and government agencies.
Serve as staff representative to alumni advisory councils (i.e. U-Imagine and Parlee Councils).
Research and evaluate new potential funding opportunities and evaluate and re-engage existing portfolio, orchestrating of site visits where appropriate.
Assist in and oversee all aspects of proposal development, submission, and reporting.
Interpret and negotiate sponsor policies, government regulations, and award terms and conditions and communicate same to appropriate faculty and staff as needed to manage and track funding.
In collaboration with the Vice President, the Director participates fully in implementing best practices, both internally and externally, within the field of corporate, foundation, and government engagement that will provide significant and sustained financial support for institutional and research driven priorities.
Collaborate with appropriate parties on all aspects of publicizing grant activity, such as working with the Vice President and college departments with hosting conferences, campus workshops, grant-related training sessions, webinars, and other related activities.
Provide guidance and insights that contribute to the institution’s strategic direction of external fundraising; ability to motivate, support and manage multiple priorities in a positive, collaborative manner.
Attend conferences and meetings with other sponsored research offices to maintain networking relationships for collaborative proposals.
Manage the Coordinator for Corporate, Foundation & Government Relations.
Previous grants experience, with a preference for someone who has worked in higher education in the areas of proposal and application preparation, budget development, prospect identification and reporting.
Bachelor's degree required, preferably from a liberal arts college in a discipline where writing is essential (i.e. English or Communications), but not restricted to these disciplines.
Outstanding communication, writing and organization skills.
Familiarity with state, federal and private funding sources.
Ability to work with many constituents at all levels, while acting independently and professionally as part of the larger team, as well as managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
Experience using fundraising software systems such as Raiser's Edge, Wealth Engine, PIVOT, and Foundation Search or relevant experience that indicates and aptitude for learning these systems.
Possesses a deep appreciation for, and an ability to articulate eloquently, the value of public higher education and the particular goals and priorities of Ursinus College, its curriculum, programs, research, aspirations and the unique experience it provides to students and employees of the college.
Ability to sit for long periods at personal computer performing related functions.
Availability and flexibility to travel as needed.
Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as necessary.
Works collaboratively with colleagues and team members in the Advancement office and throughout the College. Participates in Advancement Office meetings and other key College staff meetings.
Participate as an active member of the college community by attending regular campus meetings and events (faculty presentations/performances, academic awards, homecoming and alumni weekend).
Provides support to office leadership, as needed, for priority projects. Serves to help educate faculty and staff about the Advancement office and its mission and goals.
Possesses knowledge and experience with computer programs that support the Advancement Department including Microsoft Office programs and Raiser’s Edge.
