The Anchor Institution Initiative is a program of the Center for Community Engagement (aka Central Anchor Institution Initiative Office). The role of the Central Anchor Institution Initiative office is to provide overall strategic direction, management and support for the initiative at the institution level. The office facilitates and coordinates the work executed at department/unit levels within the university and supports partnership with the community.
The Anchor Institution initiative enables UCSF to leverage its economic resources - its position as a large employer, a significant purchaser of goods and services and an institutional investor - to better support the long-term economic security of communities adversely impacted by health inequities. The Center for Community Engagement (CCE) partners with the Office of Diversity and Outreach and the following campus and UCSF Health units - Human Resources, Supply Chain, and the Controller's Office - to advance the recommendations contained in the May 2019 report Advancing Health Equity in San Francisco: An Assessment of UCSF's Anchor Institution Capacity and Recommendations for Strategic Direction.
The role of the Program Manager for Communications and Grant Writing is to support the Center for Community Engagement Executive Director and the anchor team around advancing UCSF's anchor mission in the areas of resource development and communications. The candidate will serve as the lead for anchor-related communications to internal and external audiences and collaborative grant-writing.
Specific duties include: * Assessing funding opportunities at the federal, state and local government levels, as well as philanthropy in the areas of workforce development, diverse small business development, infrastructure and capacity building, and anchor evaluation, etc. * Providing recommendations to the anchor team on grants to pursue * Managing and coordinating the drafting of grant applications in collaboration with key stakeholders both internal and external to UCSF * Developing an internal and external communications strategy to report on the progress of UCSF's anchor mission * Developing a framework for an annual anchor progress report in consultation with the anchor team, Community & Government Relations (CGR) colleagues and anchor steering/subcommittee partners * Executing on the communications plan by drafting stories and disseminating them through internal UCSF channels in collaboration with the Communicators Network, as appropriate, in partnership with community partners, via external channels * Support script writing and slide deck creation for both internal and external presentations * Manage day-to-day activities of communications, including coordinating website updates, drafting, copy editing, fact checking and proofreading content.
