Executive Vice President – AIA Illinois The association is seeking an experienced professional to provide leadership to the organization as the chief executive officer of day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives. This individual is the primary resource to the board and staff for best practices, new ideas, and strong execution of shared goals. The position is seen as a champion for architects, friend to the profession, and leader among peers across the nation, the first among equals of a talented staff team, and a strong voice for better communities. Overview - AIA Illinois is the state office of the American Institute of Architects. The organization expands opportunities for the architecture profession to provide greater impact through effective advocacy, community outreach and leadership development. AIA began in 1857 as the voice of the architecture profession and a resource to its members in service to society. The state council was formed in 1946 and is based in Springfield. AIA Illinois’ board and staff serve over 4,000 members making it the fourth largest state component in the Institute.

Roles and Responsibilities • Grow relationships with primary stakeholders—members, firms, allied groups and policymakers. • Coordinate with other AIA offices to share and extend membership service efforts. • Meet with key contacts on a regular basis to develop strategies for signature programs. • Analyze and support platforms for effective public outreach. • Represent AIA Illinois and speak on its behalf at local, state and national forums. • Assess and direct legislative and regulatory efforts that impact the profession. • Develop annual budget and oversee finances using sound management principles. • Seek insight from subject matter experts on design trends and practice innovations. • Help honor the world-changing work of architects for clients and communities. • Supervise and manage staff and direct reports. • Coordinate volunteer involvement and leadership development; and • Conduct board and staff business ensuring the association and its companion entities (Foundation & PAC) comply with laws that affect not-for-profit organizations.
Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree required. • At least seven years of work experience in association, not-for-profit, government relations, public administration or communications. Leadership and management roles preferred. • Availability to travel both in-state and out of state with occasional after hours and weekends.
This is a full-time salaried position headquartered in Springfield, Illinois. A competitive compensation and benefits package is offered based on peer positions in the industry and the candidate’s experience.
