The MontanaPBS Director of Development oversees Corporate Support, Membership, Annual Giving and Major Giving. The Director of Development develops the goals and budget for the department; strategizes fundraising plans for the year and determines priorities based on organizational goals. The Director of Development is also responsible for building relationships with potential individual, corporate and foundation donors, making presentations, and grant writing for special projects and initiatives. The Director of Development works closely with the board of the Friends of MontanaPBS for advice, information and board involvement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design and implement a long-range and on-going development plan for MontanaPBS (KUSM-TV, Bozeman and KUFM-TV, Missoula) including fundraising activities targeting viewers, corporations, foundations, granting agencies and government funding sources.
Responsible for developing and managing major gift and planned giving programs, coordinating campaigns, supervising development staff, and serving as an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors of the Friends of MontanaPBS and other appropriate committees of the non-profit organization.
Work closely with, and serve as a key liaison with the MSU and UM Foundations. Develop a unified development strategy and coordinated donor communications consistent with the guidelines of both Foundations.
Stimulate development activities, major gift programs, planned giving programs, and campaigns as well as maintain good working relations with the Friends of MontanaPBS, the non-profit group that helps fund MontanaPBS operations. The Director of Development will be responsible for providing a generous and welcoming environment for the public and for donors as well as establishing/maintaining a culture of philanthropy within the organization at all levels and departments. The major responsibilities of the position will include: supervision of the Membership Annual Giving program, as well as Major and Planned Giving activities, implementation and coordination of Public Relations for Montana PBS (including the indirect supervision of the front office staff) , support to the Montana PBS Board, coordination of Government Relations and support in administering and developing Grants.
Develop goals and measurable objectives for Major and Planned Gifts. The Membership Events Manager and Development Program Manager will be responsible for reaching those goals and objectives, and the Director of Development will evaluate performance on an annual basis.
Approve purchases of equipment, premiums, and supplies as authorized under the management guidelines of MontanaPBS and its budgetary procedures. The Director of Development will also have the authority – in consultation with colleagues – to make decisions affecting campaign, major gift and planned giving, membership programs, underwriting rate structures, pledge drives, and other issues directly affecting MontanaPBS development activities.
MontanaPBS is an effective outreach tool for the Montana University System. Children’s programming, distance education, cultural events and public affairs are the very foundation of public television in Montana. The Director of Development will serve as an effective leader establishing new initiatives that can further enhance membership growth, financial stability, and a public television system that will provide Montana taxpayers with choice, educational opportunities, and quality programming. MontanaPBS currently serves over 150 communities across the state and our television signal is in 380,000 households.

Bachelor’s degree in Business Management/Marketing, Communications, Broadcasting, or a related field. or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Progressively responsible experience with individual, foundation or corporate fundraising including Capital campaign fundraising
Demonstrated success in supervising and managing a successful team.
Experience managing and establishing philanthropic campaigns.
Demonstrated experience with fiscal management, goals and budgets.
Demonstrated experience working in a non-profit setting.
Demonstrated experience in public broadcasting.
Grant writing experience.
Experience working with volunteer organizations and/or a volunteer Board of Director of Developments.
