Posting Summary: The Office of State Government Relations (SGR) is currently seeking an Assistant Director of State Government Relations to join their team. SGR monitors legislative issues and activities in Richmond and communicates information to appropriate University officials.The Assistant Director supports the Associate Vice President for State Government Relations and Special Assistant to the President in managing the University's state relations outreach and strategy and advancing the University's legislative, operating, and capital priorities.
A Bachelor's Degree and professional experience working with the state government is required. A Master's Degree is highly desirable. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite is required.
Candidates must have working knowledge of Virginia legislative and budget processes and key policy issues facing higher education, an understanding of higher education structure and functions, excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to communicate with all levels and background, and the ability to effectively collect, analyze, synthesize and present information to various internal and external constituencies. The ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and the possession of balanced and timely decision-making skills in support of institutional priorities are essential.
