Burleson, TX (43,960) The City of Burleson, a rapidly growing, family oriented community located just south of Fort Worth in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, is seeking a progressive, creative, municipal executive to serve as its next City Manager. Burleson values its small town quality of life atmosphere that includes excellent schools, beautiful parks, state of the art recreational facilities, low crime rate, numerous houses of worship, and an affordable, diverse housing stock.
Burleson is spread out over 26 square miles of rolling hills, lakes and parks. It is one of the fastest growing cities in the region. Current development is primarily focused in the western portion of the City along the Chisholm Trail Parkway which was extended in the last two years. Burleson has approximately 56 additional square miles in its Extraterritorial Jurisdiction area (ETJ) which is adjacent to the corporate boundaries.
Burleson created the High Point Business Park in 2007 adjacent to IH-35W which is approaching buildout with a $70 million food condiments project currently under construction. Another privately developed business park, High Point East, has another $30 million food-related business under construction. Burleson has also focused on park and open space for residents and later this year will break ground on The Plaza in Old Town which will include designed green space, a permanent outdoor stage for concerts and a wide lawn area near the city’s thriving Old Town business and entertainment venues.
Burleson operates under the Council/Manager form of government with a $85 million total budget ($38 million General Fund), 320 full time and 90 part time employees. Burleson is a full service city with police, fire, public works, engineering, neighborhood services, community development, parks and recreation, library, golf, finance and human resources. Notably, the Police Department was the first department in Texas to be accredited and the City has an ISO rating of 1.
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in public policy, urban and regional planning, business, or related field. A master's degree in public policy, planning, business administration or related field is highly desired. Candidates must have 7-10 years increasingly responsible executive level experience a portion of which is in the public sector. A combination of public and private sector experience is desirable. The successful candidate will be a highly collaborative, approachable executive with a proven track record in consensus building and strategic leadership. Candidates must possess a demonstrable business acumen, and success in economic development, particularly in a rapidly growing community. Residency in the City of Burleson is required within a reasonable time following appointment. Starting salary range is $200,000 +/- DOQ.
