Role Value Proposition: The Sr. Government Relations Associate will be responsible for government relations activity in certain key states as well as tracking and analyzing legislative and regulatory priority items at the state and federal levels and other advocacy efforts in support of Brighthouse Financial's policy goals. The individual will leverage resources to identify policy items of concern, help coordinate action between Government Relations and impacted business lines, prepare research and summary documents as required, and represent Brighthouse Financial's interest in front of external stakeholders in an effort to advance the company's policy goals.
Engage in advocacy activities on key issues pending before state insurance departments, legislatures, executive officials, and the NAIC
Identify, monitor, and track legislative and regulatory items that impact Brighthouse Financial through tracking systems, trade associations, NAIC communications, and other tools
Develop and execute strategies to address key objectives including regulatory approvals, product filings, and policy priorities
Conduct issue analysis and prepare summary and research documents for use by Brighthouse Financial's Government Relations team
Provide Government Relations coverage and prepare summaries of internal and external meetings or calls as required by management
Build and maintain high-level relationships with trade associations, industry leaders, internal stakeholders, and government officials as necessary to promote Brighthouse Financial's policy goals
Identify and monitor companywide and product-specific legislative and regulatory priorities in coordination with internal business partners
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
6+ years of public policy experience with legislators, relevant state or federal agencies, or an insurance-specific trade association
Extensive knowledge of the legislative/regulatory process is required
Strong analytical ability and excellent written and oral communications skills
Ability to interact effectively with internal and external business partners
A team attitude, ability to work collaboratively across functions, and enthusiastic disposition required
Experience in the life insurance/financial services sector a plus
