Summary of Position: Direct and assist state lobbying teams, legislative efforts and education activities of the Association at state council level. Responsible for working with those who represent the interests of the Association before state and local governments and informing association members of legislative issues and developments. Build a strong grassroots organization to impact federal, state and local issues related to the convenience industry. Individual may provide some media relations support and communications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Direct, coordinate and supervise state lobbying relations.
Represent the interests of the Association before state and local governments.
Inform Association of legislative issues and developments.
Provide legislative education to NAMA’s membership
Identify key industry issues and coordinate state lobbying and legislative efforts within state councils.
Protect and advance the economic interests of the Association’s membership from federal, state and local legislative, regulatory and political attacks.
Communicate regional issues, strategies and tactics between state councils in the region.
Organize local volunteer committees. Issue call to action campaigns as appropriate, for association volunteers to contact their elected officials.
Identify and prioritize state financial assistance and legislative needs.
Develop effective state coalitions and alliances to represent the Association and industry. Build and improve relationships with allied state associations and state lobbyists.
Educate membership on the ROI of government relation programs.
Within legal parameters, utilize political tools to elect candidates who support the legislative issues of the Association.
Technical Requirements – Education, Areas of Knowledge and Experience
Four year degree is required.
Three years state or federal government experience is highly preferred.
Experience with federal agencies would be helpful in performing duties of the position.
High level proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat.
Some exposure to trade associations is preferred
