A dynamic association management company is looking for a Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs to join our growing team. The ideal candidate has at least five years of relevant experience with a government agency, trade association, corporation, or on Capitol Hill.

This position would provide regulatory and legislative monitoring, advocacy and compliance for two Verto Solutions managed associations, the American Spice Trade Association (ASTA) and the Flavor and Extract Manufacturers Association of the U.S. (FEMA).
A successful candidate would join our professional regulatory and legislative team which conducts surveillance of proposed government actions that affect industries represented by our associations, supports association technical committees and provides and implements targeted client regulatory compliance assistance and advocacy programs.
This position is located at our offices in downtown Washington, D.C., but some travel within the U.S. will be required.

Many of the issues handled by a successful candidate center around food, food ingredients, food safety and agriculture policy and may involve activities related to rulemaking and compliance matters under Federal agency jurisdiction including, but not limited to, the Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. However, there are occasionally state compliance matters as well as Congressional activity for which a successful candidate will be responsible.
In addition to some Congressional legislative activity the position is also responsible for planning and staffing an annual Congressional fly-in as well as an annual regulatory conference. A successful candidate must also participate in client association committee meetings, provide professional staff support for association committees and participate in relevant industry coalitions.
In addition, the Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs will be asked to:
- Monitor relevant government organizations for proposals that may impact client associations.
- Develop recommended responses to the above including but not limited to: providing association updates or preparing written submissions, letters, formal comments, talking points, or meeting with officials.
- Develop relationships with policy makers and collaborations with allied trade and non-profit organizations.
- Participate in priority coalitions to support partnerships on behalf of associations.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of regulatory requirements impacting client associations and their members.
- Respond to member inquiries with necessary research, providing timely and complete assistance.
- Serve as primary staff liaison to association committees relevant to regulatory and legislative activities.
- Support the planning and execution of client association education and training, including workshops, webinars and guidance documents related to government relations.
- Develop and submit budget requests for advocacy programs.
