The Michigan Municipal League is looking for an individual to fill our General Counsel vacancy. This position will report to the League’s Executive Director/CEO and be a member of the League’s executive team. In this role, you will provide legal advice to the League on internal issues, overall business operations, and serve as counsel to the Board of Trustees. Additionally, you’ll provide legal guidance to League member city and village officials on a wide variety municipal matters. This position also oversees the League’s use of outside counsel on a variety of organizational matters. This position serves as the Administrator of the League’s Legal Defense Fund by overseeing and guiding its cases and administrative tasks. This position also serves as the liaison to affiliate organizations, including as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Michigan Association of Municipal Attorneys. This position is traditionally active in the International Municipal Lawyers Association, particularly in its State League Counsel Section. Other tasks include developing and presenting training programs to League members, writing articles for the League’s bi-monthly magazine as well as other reports and publications, and leading contract negotiations, enforcement, and administration.
